LaV’s Vilma Mazaite has been named a Sommelier of the Year by Food & Wine. The director of wine at the East Austin fine dining restaurant was one of seven sommeliers from around the country to earn the honor. The magazine explains its rationale in the Mazaite selection:
“Although she’s excited to introduce customers to obscure grapes like Fendant, she’s a master of Burgundy, sourcing wines from all the best crus.”
The issue hits newsstands Friday. For Mazaite’s description of three wines that help tell the story of her life (2001 Prager Achleiten Smaragd Grüner Veltliner, 2001 Movia Ribolla Gialla, and 1998 Au Bon Climat Knox Alexander Pinot Noir) read the story at foodandwine.com.
LaV recently updated the format of its extensive wine list and introduced half-off bottles on Tuesday and Wednesday. Read about that here.
