Lifestyle magazine Southern Living has released its list of the top 50 barbecue spots in America, and, despite not being in the South, Texas had a pretty good showing among the entries from the Carolinas, Tennessee, et al.
Maybe you’ve heard of Franklin Barbecue? It made the list thanks to its brisket. The sausage and harder-to-find items like pulled goat helped land Micklethwait Craft Meats a spot, and La Barbecue earned a spot on the strength of its brisket, ribs and sausage.

The brisket bosses at Louie Mueller Barbecue made the list as did Kreuz Market and Black’s Barbecue in Lockhart and the City Market in Luling. Rounding out the 10 Texas entries were Cattleack Barbeque (Dallas), Corkscrew (Spring), SouthernQ BBQ and Catering (Houston).
For the record, the best barbecue I’ve eaten this year was at La Barbecue, Franklin Barbecue, Kerlin BBQ, Freedmen’s, 18th & Vine (Dallas), Louie Mueller Barbecue (Taylor), Black’s Barbecue (Lockhart), Kreuz Market (Lockhart), Corkscrew (Spring), Ray’s Bar-B-Q Shack (Houston) and Ronnie’s BBQ (Johnson City).
